About DragonGate

Our research and market intelligence breaks down the challenges of the UK public sector into manageable areas of business focus.

Informing Reform

The UK Public Sector has traditionally organised itself around silos to deliver clear social objectives, whether in Health, Education or Municipal Government.

Each of these major areas is a child of its time, developing incrementally from an initial policy into its current being, with its own institutional values and culture and often retaining its own assets and budgetary controls to execute its responsibilities.

They are siloed – operating often as completely isolated departments, systems and processes with often minimal alignment and even contradictory objectives and behaviours.

The biggest challenges the UK public sector faces are complex and interdependent and are therefore not easily addressable from these isolated silos

And in the 21st century the demands on government have never been greater.

An ageing society, for instance – with the average age of the population rising with every passing year – presents significant challenges to the economy, including greater caring demands on those of working age and increased health and social care costs.

Without action, an ageing population will lead to lower productivity overall for the UK as well as problems of ‘intergenerational fairness’.

This ageing population is accompanied by huge rises in cardiovascular and long-term diseases that place enormous strain on the health service. Public health needs to be remodelled to correct the imbalance between emergency treatment and long-term prevention.

In other areas, the Paris Climate Agreement places an obligation on the UK to adapt to greener energy sources and a more circular economy which requires government to take the lead in creating conditions ripe for innovation in this area.

Without action, the Green Economy and its benefits will pass the UK by – and carbon emissions will continue to grow.

To tackle these challenges, true innovation is required – both to cut across boundaries and to streamline systems. This is where DragonGate makes its contribution.

DragonGate was formed in 2011 from an original partnership of five former leaders in public service passionate about helping to design and deliver some of the transformational changes now required by the public sector.

Since formation, DragonGate’s evidence-based, step-by-step approach to imparting best practice understanding has empowered public sector clients to take the steps they need to make strategy into reality.
